Filipa Braz da Silva was re-elected this Tuesday as president of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg), in elections marked by the exclusivity of single lists and by the lack of interested parties in occupying the direction of several Pedagogical Centers.

In the end, only seven lists were voted on, for eleven bodies, all of them without opponents, which could explain the adhesion to the polls, which remained by 742 voters.

According to data revealed by AAUAlg, the president was elected with 648 votes in favor of 68 blank and 26 null, with List A, the only one under scrutiny, achieving 90,5 percent of the total votes.

In yesterday's elections, André Matos was also elected chairman of the Magna Assembly and Raquel Pedro was elected chairman of the Supervisory Board. Once again, the female gender predominates, as far as the main management bodies of AAUAlg are concerned, since the previous president of the Board of the Magna Assembly was Rita Correia.

In the election for the Magna Assembly, the single list got 552 votes, with 154 students voting blank and 36 null votes, which translates into a percentage of 78,2 percent. As for the Fiscal Council, there were 565 on the only candidate list, 149 blank and 28 null.

In the Pedagogical Nucleus, which represent students from each of the UAlg organic units, men still dominate. The four lists presented and elected are all headed by boys.

At the Center of the Faculty of Science and Technology, the list chosen as the winner was headed by Rodrigo Teixeira, while the one for the Faculty of Economics had Miguel Rosa as the first element. At the Superior School of Health, the list was led by Hugo Silvestre and at the Superior School of Management, Hotel and Tourism of Portimão, by André João.

There were no candidate lists for the Pedagogical Nucleus of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCHS), the Superior School of Education and Communication (ESEC), the Superior Institute of Engineering (ISE) and the Superior School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism (ESHGT – Faro).

The low participation of university students in these elections was noted in the participation in the polls, much lower than last year. In 2013, 742 students voted, while last year around 2300 students voted, in a universe of just over 8 thousand students at the University of Algarve. That is, turnout was less than 10 percent.
