Pedro Oliveira and João Martins, councilors of the Loulé Chamber, accompanied by the assistant to the president, Carlos Carmo, project and construction teams and the archeology team, held this Thursday, December 12, a working view of the works that are currently underway. taking place in the Historic Center of Loulé.

The purpose of this visit was to monitor the progress of the work and, at the same time, prepare the clarification and awareness-raising session with merchants and the population that will take place next Tuesday, December 17, at 19:15 pm, in the Loulé Municipal Assembly Room.

This will also be a session to raise everyone's awareness of the importance of this intervention, which will make one of the privileged areas of the Municipality of Loulé more attractive, especially because of the historic load it contains and the wealth of heritage, namely the Castle, the Islamic Baths and the Church of Nossa Lady of the Conception.

The urban arrangement of Largo D. Afonso III, Rua D. Paio Peres Correia and Largo das Bicas Velhas (Chafariz) intends to highlight the existing monuments and historical buildings with the creation of places of stay and contemplation and differentiation of pavements, creating places of leisure and stay and giving priority to pedestrian circulation with improvement in the safety and comfort conditions of the pavements. The introduction of urban furniture and improvement of lighting and the remodeling of water, sewage and rainwater infrastructures will be some of the interventions to be carried out.

Thus, the objective is to revitalize and enhance all elements considered structuring in terms of dynamization of the experience of urban space and consolidate the strategy of affirming the cluster, in order to give meaning and reorganize public spaces and their uses in this process of urban rehabilitation .

For this, it is intended that the interventions are articulated with each other through a common language, translated into a criterion that favors the mobility of residents and visitors and the unity in terms of the solutions developed, namely formal, functional and material.

The works have an estimated cost of around 700 thousand euros. The intervention is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, under the National Strategic Reference Framework – 2007-2013, under the Operational Program Algarve 21 – Territorial Enhancement and Urban Development axis, and has a co-financing rate of 65%.
