On the weekend of December 7th and 8th, Portimão Arena receives the second edition of the GUE – Global Underwater Explorers conference, currently considered the largest meeting of underwater tourism in the world.
The first edition of GUE took place in 2011 in the German city of Kiel, with about half a thousand participants from all over the world, in a total of 20 nationalities represented, and the event had wide media coverage, both in the specialized area of diving segment, as in the promotional and tourist side of the welcoming destination.
In the case of the event that Portimão will host, it aims to contribute to reducing seasonality by promoting a differentiating segment such as underwater tourism and other associated nautical activities, with a strong focus on dissemination in the strategic markets defined by Turismo de Portugal.
The big highlight will be the Ocean Revival underwater park existing off Portimão, resulting from the deliberate sinking of four old ships of the Portuguese Navy, which constitute an artificial reef that can be visited by diving tourists, thus boosting the local economy throughout the year.
With the effective support of ATP – Associação Turismo de Portimão and ATA – Associação Turismo do Algarve, to which national and international brands and entities related to the diving sector are associated, the promotional aspect of this conference will also allow an important dissemination of the Algarve destination. , its history, its roots and potential associated with leisure and the sun and beach offer.
Stage of this international meeting, the versatile and modular Portimão Arena is the largest multipurpose space in the south of the country, enabling the realization of a large variety of events in its 4000 m2 area, where GUE concentrates its actions over two days, being contemplating a social program for the participants.
