the sounds of reggae by Richie Campbell , a performance by DJ China with the American singer Kat Blu, a Star Parade, the Paderne Medieval recreation, and lots of parties at Praia dos Pescadores and in Oura are the main ingredients of the New Year's Eve program in Albufeira, that yesterday were made known.
Paulo Dias, chief of staff of the presidency of the City Council and programmer of the event, gave
to get to know the line-up, which will feature shows for all tastes, lots of color and animation in various locations in the county.
In addition to the return of Medieval Paderne, the entry into 2014 is once again celebrated in the Oura area and at Praia dos Pescadores.
“We intend to reinforce what was done last year, bringing to Albufeira the national artist of the moment who will star in the traditional seaside concert at Praça dos Pescadores. The program will also extend to the Oura area and the parish of Paderne, in order to create a week with different activities for the whole family and in different parts of the municipality”, highlighted Paulo Dias.
The New Year's program starts on December 28th, with the return of the Medieval Paderne. Until January 1st, the village of Paderne will go back in time and let itself be invaded by the stories, arts and crafts of yesteryear. For five days it will be possible to watch parades, tournaments, exhibitions, medieval market, musical performances and many other historical moments.
On the night of December 31, the stage at Praia dos Pescadores will host the concert by the sea, with another great reference from the musical panorama marking the last minutes of 2013 and the first of 2014. The old year will be farewelled by Richie Campbell's voice, preparing to get the audience dancing to Reggae.
In this show, the artist and the 911 Band will present themselves with a unique formation and the alignment will certainly include themes such as "That's How We Roll", "Love Is An Addiction", "Get With You", "Whataday" or the most recent hit “That's How We Roll” recorded in Jamaica. Richie is preparing a special production for this concert including some guests, to be announced shortly.
The concert will start at 23:00 and will only be interrupted so that the artists and the public can make the countdown together for 2014 in Albufeira, accompanied by the fireworks session that marks the entry into the new year.
But the music starts at 22:00, with the performance of DJ China feat Kat Blu. The Algarve DJ joins the American singer to interpret some of the themes that are part of the Soul Therapy project, of which both are part.
Playing since 1988, China is one of the references of djing in the south of the country, having passed through some of the mythical night spaces that have made the Algarve recognized nationally and internationally.
Kat Blu, on the other hand, has been singing and composing since 1997, the year she began acting as a vocalist throughout Asia, Europe and the United States. With a performance promised between 22 pm and 00 pm, the DJ and the singer are getting ready to surprise the public at Praça dos Pescadores with notes of house, funky and techno.
Star Parade in Oura
At twelve o'clock, the Oura area will also be illuminated by a firework show, which marks the beginning of 2014. Avenida Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro, in Areias de São João, will be animated by dozens of street artists that will parade both in the streets and in participating establishments.
This year, the Star Parade has as its main theme “The Circus”, allowing for a spectacle of circus arts filled with acrobatics, juggling, fire performances and many surprises.
Albufeira's New Year's Eve is the result of a partnership between the City Council and the Albufeira Promotion Agency (APAL), with the support of the Association of Commerce and Services of the Algarve Region (ACRAL), of the Hotel, Restaurant and Similar Association from Portugal (AHRESP), from the Association of Entrepreneurs of Av. Sá Carneiro – Areias de S. João, and from several local entrepreneurs.
During the event's presentation ceremony, the President of the Chamber praised “the spirit of cooperation between the municipality's businessmen who, once again, joined together to embrace this cause that belongs to all Albufeires”.
Carlos Silva e Sousa recalled that the New Year is an event of great importance for Albufeira, which projects the municipality and represents a brand for combating seasonality, giving new impetus to local businessmen who make their living mainly from tourism.
"The Municipality will collaborate in all its due to ensure that whoever chooses Albufeira to celebrate New Year's Eve can have fun, feel safe and want to come back", he said.
The president of APAL also highlighted the importance of the event, which “is a national brand in terms of tourism and which, in the difficult times in which we live, appears as a lever to make the activity more dynamic and offer those who visit us a diverse and of national notoriety”.
José Lourenço dos Santos reaffirmed the commitment and effort shown by APAL's partners in carrying out the New Year in Albufeira, demonstrating “that they are available to continue supporting the cause and fighting for the council to become a national and international tourist brand, either summer or winter”.
