The weather has already cooled off but it is still inviting for programs away from home in the Algarve. The first is scheduled for next Saturday, 23, at the cineteatro de Loulé, with the flamenco of Oscar de los Reys and Luna Fabiola.

In addition to the spectacle of this vigorous dance, at 21 pm, anyone in the region will have many reasons to go out until the end of December, or this was not the most awaited festive season of the year.

The events calendar then opens with flamenco. Oscar de los Reys invites choreographer and dancer Luna Fabiola for little more than an hour of intense show, accompanied on voice by Jesus Flores and on guitar by Juan Torres. The ticket costs 10 euros.

To serve the good forks spread throughout the region, the multipurpose space in Aljezur opens up to the Sweet Potato Festival, where this sugary pulp plant is the center of attention.

It runs from December 29th to December 01st, from 12:00 pm to midnight (on the 24st it closes at 00:01 pm), in a "logic of complementarity" between agriculture, industry, commerce, tourism and services, explains the organization (City Hall of Aljezur and the Sweet Potato Producers Association of Aljezur).

Time now for music, with the Dead Combo concert at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, on the 30th, at 21 pm. Musicians Tó Trips and Pedro Gonçalves appear in the region to the sound of their latest album – «Lisboa Mulata» (30) – simultaneously drawing experimental and classic themes from their hats.

It's worth seeing and listening to the group that embodies characters taken (so it seems) from the comics. Ticket prices vary between 10 euros (counter) and 12 euros (audience).

In early December, specifically on the 06th, a more Christmas program is suggested, with the opening to the public of a giant crib at the António Aleixo Cultural Center in Vila Real de Santo António. Every year it grows and now presents itself with more than four thousand figures that portray professions as diverse as miller, baker, fisherman and farrier.

To make the delights of children and adults alike, the crib exhibition will be open until January 12, from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:30 pm to 19:00 pm.

The following day (07) may be a good opportunity for those who have not yet bought their Christmas gifts, as the Serra de Loulé Fair takes place with its handicraft exhibitors.

Here you will find traditional items made by hand, mainly by artisans from the Algarve mountains, ideal to give to family and friends. This year, the exhibition remains on the street, more precisely on Avenida José da Costa Mealha, from 10:00 am to 17:00 pm.

In Portimão, on the 20th, there is a concert scheduled with David Fonseca. It starts at 21 pm, at TEMPO, to present the project «Seasons – Falling», started in the spring of 30 with «Rising» and which now continues, in the autumn, with «Falling».

The Portuguese artist, faithful to his line of experimentation, this time decided to portray a year of his life in songs. This is what this concert proposes, at the single price of 15 euros.

A day later, he arrives at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, the show «Dream of a Summer Night», performed by Companhia de Dança do Algarve.

The ballet inspired by William Shakespeare's play speaks of the love affairs of four young people – Lysander, Demetrius, Helena and Hermia – who intersect in a forest populated by elves, nymphs and fairies. To watch on the 21st, from 21 pm, for 30 euros.

And because December is also the month of New Year's Eve, the Algarve events calendar includes different proposals for what is one of the most coveted nights of the year. For those who have already decided to spend midnight away from home, the Algarve has prepared fireworks, concerts and lots of entertainment, assuming itself as the perfect region to welcome 2014.

In Albufeira, for example, the beginning of the new year is once again celebrated in the Oura area, between street performers and a fireworks show, and on Pescadores beach, where Richie Campbell will sing after a performance at 22:00 by DJ China and by the American singer Kat Blu.

Em Monte Gordo the party will also start early. From 22:30 pm, the coastal avenue will be invaded by the music of David Carreira and later by the colors and explosions of fireworks.

Meanwhile, in the Marquês de Pombal square in Vila Real de Santo António, music will be heard with good rhythm in a concert that will cheer the people present.

But because there will be a lot of partying throughout the region on the night of the 31st, it is best to check the schedule on the official websites of local authorities and classified hotel establishments (or go to the Algarve promotional site, hosted at www.visitalgarve.pt, and choose the best option for New Year's Eve).
