Nativity scenes, parade of small parents, music, gastronomy and handicrafts are some of the proposals of the Christmas Entertainment program, which from December 3rd to January 6th, intends to invigorate the city's commercial area and attract residents and visitors.

Merchants were also challenged “to decorate and light the facades and windows of their establishments, to place potted plants decorated with Christmas motifs, Christmas trees and runners next to the establishments and along the street”. Owners of establishments may open their stores until 22 pm, during the period during which Christmas activities take place.

The Portimão City Council and the Portimão Parish Council, in partnership, propose various activities for the Christmas season. Among them, an exhibition of nativity scenes, in Largo da Mó and Alameda da República, as well as a parade of parents' natives involving students from various groups and educational establishments in the county, which will take place on December 17, at 10 am .

In terms of gastronomy, there will be «Saberes & Flavors» to discover in the old Algifa building, right in the heart of the shopping area. There, they will be shown and given to taste local products. This initiative takes place on the 13th, 14th, 20th and 21st of December, from 15pm to 22pm. Also in this place, from December 10th to January 6th, there will be a craft fair from 15pm to 19pm.

The little ones will have at their disposal entertainment located in Alameda and Rua Dr. João de Deus (next to the ideal hat shop), with photographs with Santa Claus and face painting on Fridays and Saturdays.

Street entertainment will be a constant during this Christmas period, with the presence of the band from the Sociedade Filarmónica Portimonense, the Conservatory of Music of Portimão, various sports and recreational clubs, and the tunas of the University of Algarve and ISMAT. Not forgetting the street artists who will be in Portimão this Christmas, with circus arts, human statues and other surprises.

To encourage this type of demonstration, the municipality decided to "exempt from the tax on the occupation of public roads all those who join the initiative, in the period between November 29th and January 6th".

«With regard to street artists, and in order to obtain a better articulation and management of their presence in the aforementioned arteries, registration is already open for them to express their interest in participating, and for this purpose, contact the Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes», announced the City Council of Portimão.
