João Semedo, national coordinator of the Left Block, and Congresswoman Cecília Honório questioned the minister of Health on whether the inquiry into the death of the child in Portimão will be carried out by the General Inspection of Health Activities (IGAS).

At issue is the death of an 8 year old in a hospital in Lisbon, after having undergone an appendix surgery performed at the Hospital de Faro when, days before, she had been seen at the Hospital de Portimão, where she was discharged on the same day.

Following the incident, and after coverage by the media, the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve announced its intention to «start an inquiry process to assess all the facts and the performance responsibilities of the professionals who interfered in the boy's death.

The Left Bloc considers that only "an effective and impartial inquiry will allow us to reach relevant conclusions" for the knowledge of the facts related to this case, as well as to prevent similar ones in the future.

To that extent, BE considers that "it should be IGAS who should investigate what happened and not ARS Algarve".

However, the executive of the Portimão Chamber, which includes a councilor elected by BE, approved unanimously yesterday two repudiation motions on the communiqué from the Board of Directors of Centro Hospitalar do Algarve (CHA) which disclosed the conclusions of the internal inquiry carried out by that entity.
