The Algarve socialist deputy Miguel Freitas questioned the Government this week about the delay in the works of the secondary schools in the Algarve, warning that for the fourth consecutive year, "dangerous and undesirable" operating conditions that jeopardize safety and the academic success of many of the students in these educational establishments.

«It is absolutely unacceptable that another school year begins without a clear definition of the programming of Parque Escolar's interventions in secondary schools in the Algarve», says Miguel Freitas, considering that «these works have become a torment for the students, the Supervisors of Education and for the Directorates of the referred schools”.

PS/Algarve recalls, in a press release, that the secondary school modernization program should already be completed in 2012, but, due to lack of funding, projects were altered and there were delays arising from lawsuits due to non-payment by the State.

«On the visit to João de Deus Secondary School, in Faro, I had the opportunity to verify that the classes and cafeteria service in the "Monoblocos" continue and there is no social room for students and when it rains many of them stay outside because they do not fit in the entrance hall», denounces the Socialist parliamentarian .

In addition, in the questions they put to the Ministry of Education, the socialists want to know if there has been a lack of supervision so that construction errors have not been detected, respectively, in the coverage of the playing field at Escola João de Deus, in Faro, and on the floor of the pavilion in the Secondary of Vila Real de Santo António.

«And what is incredible is that no one guarantees us the completion of the works during this school year, neither those responsible in the Parque Escolar region, nor the Education Delegation of the Algarve», concludes Miguel Freitas.

For this very reason, the Socialist Party, in the Assembly of the Republic, demands a response from the Government regarding the programming and forecast for the end of interventions and the definitive reception of the Parque Escolar works in the Algarve.
