Faro will pay homage to the poet António Ramos Rosa, who died recently, with the gathering «At the wind table – a conversation in Ramos Rosa's “house”, which will take place at the Municipal Library of Faro, on the day the Farense writer would turn 89, October 17th, Thursday. The Tertúlia, scheduled for 18 pm, will be attended by Pedro Ferré, the poet Manuel Madeira, Augusto Miranda and João Minhoto Marques.

Died on the 23rd of September, at the age of 88, António Ramos Rosa dedicated his life to poetry. Author of one of the most extensive and outstanding poetic works of contemporary Portuguese poetry, beginning in Faro with the publication of Grito Claro (1958), he also wrote books of essays that marked successive generations of poetry readers, such as Poesia, Liberdade (1962) or Poesia e Interrogação do Real (1979).

He also received some of the most important Portuguese literary awards, such as the Pessoa Prize in 1988, and several international awards both as a poet and as a translator. The Municipality of Faro awarded him its Gold Medal, and was distinguished by the University of Algarve with the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa, on his birthday, in 2003.

«The meaning and legacy of Ramos Rosa's poetic work, his critical and essayistic work in the search for poetic plenitude, experiences and other memories, are some of the themes to be addressed in this Tertúlia, an open space, which is intended to be shared by all who want to remember this great poet of the Portuguese language, born in Faro», illustrated the Faro local authority.

The Library of Faro, which bears the name of the honoree, has, on permanent exhibition, a set of objects donated by the poet, testimony of several honors he received. In the lobby there is a bibliographic exhibition.
