It was a hard (again) victory and a short and well-divided result, but Rogério Bacalhau was the winner in the race for the presidency of the Chamber of Faro. The coalition currently in power was re-elected for a second term at the head of the municipality's destinies in the Algarve capital, something that has not happened for four consecutive elections, although it is not yet this time that the same president completes two consecutive terms.

this sunday in Faro, won the PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/MIM coalition, mainly Rogério Bacalhau, who also achieved a personal victory, but also won the CDU, which again elects a councilor, António Mendonça and rose a lot in the number of votes, compared to 2009 (from 467 to 3122 in 2013, almost seven times more).

Despite the victory, the next four years are unlikely to be easy for the re-elected coalition. This time, the entry of a CDU councilor and the short advantage for the PS, whom they won by around 400 votes, determine that the councilor division is 4-4-1.

In the same way that it does not have a majority in the Chamber, the right-wing coalition will also be outnumbered in the Municipal Assembly. An issue devalued by Rogério Bacalhau, who said he will "do the same thing" he has done so far, which is "to seek consensus".

Visibly proud of having achieved a victory that, he admitted, some members of his team "came to doubt" (not he, he assured), Rogério Bacalhau thanked many people, but did not mention his predecessor Macário Correia in his victory speech.

Later, to journalists, he assured that he spoke with the outgoing president, elected by the same coalition "three times", this Sunday and that he had already congratulated him.

For the population of Faro, there were more thanks and the guarantee that the new executive will give a special focus "to the public space", the main concern that was transmitted to him by the population during the campaign.

As for the importance of the victory for the PSD, the party that leads the coalition and that chose it, on a very difficult day for the party at regional and national level, Rogério Bacalhau preferred to speak of a victory for the PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM coalition /ME, implying that, in your case, the union was really strong.

The final results were: PSD/CDS/MPT/PPM/MIM 33,94%, PS 32,32%, CDU 12,76% (1), Independents/Vitorino 5,74%, BE 4,82% and PPV/ VItor Silva 1,38%. Turnout at the polls was 43,6 percent (in 2009 57,4 percent of Farense voters voted).
