They are called by many names, some of which are very unfriendly and they are expected to have some difficult weeks in the near future. The new students of the University of Algarve are arriving and, with them, the Academic Association's Freshman Reception Week, which runs from the 19th to the 27th of September.
AAUAlg launches this party, where freshmen are the stars, rarely enthusiastic about the role they reserve for them, but also measures to welcome and guide new students. Starting tomorrow, Monday, the Integration Week is launched, «which includes the introduction to new students of the organic units where they will study, of its structure and the people who make it up, together with the directors of the units».
A measure that the AAUAlg, in a press release, considers “important for a real knowledge of the functioning of the units and the University, as well as a way to encourage student participation in the academic community”.
«AAUALG has been present since the beginning of the week at the place where the registration of new students who entered the University of Algarve are held. In this space, the Association made available to students information about accommodation through the Housing Office, also presented its sections with the presence of some, such as the tunas, which also animated the space. In addition to receiving a kit offered by AAUALG and its partners, the new students had volunteers at their disposal who answered all their doubts and publicized all the sporting, cultural, social and service offerings that this association represents", revealed the representatives from the students.
Towards the end of the week, the official period of practice opens, which has already started when veteran university students have detected students enrolling in their first year, for the first time, as is the tradition in Higher Education Institutions.
As for the Caloiro Week, the poster of the festivities will still be presented, but the Caloiro Parade, one of the highlights of the party, and the Alcoholization of Perus, another beginning-of-year tradition of UAlg students, will certainly be there.
«The Academic Association of the University of the Algarve is the institution responsible for organizing the festivities and academic traditions of the Algarve institution and has already met with the policy committees, also reinforcing the importance that the practices arise while respecting the traditions and above all the individuality and integrity of all,” added AAUAlg.
