An open course of short duration (12 hours), intended to be a brief review of two distinct points of knowledge about dinosaurs, will take place at the Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes (ISMAT) in Portimão, on September 18th and 19th, in after-work hours, having as trainer the paleontologist Luís Azevedo Rodrigues.
Dinosaurs, their Paleobiology and their evolutionary path will be analyzed in the Open Course on Dinosaurs: New Techniques for Ancient Animals, but will also serve as an anchor for the discussion of other geological and paleontological phenomena in the Natural History of our planet.
The first part of this course will mainly address scientific issues in the field of knowledge that is Dinosaur Paleobiology and the Evolution of life on the planet contemporary with dinosaurs, with particular attention to the most recent research techniques in this area of knowledge.
How and where dinosaurs are discovered worldwide and nationally are questions that will be addressed.
Other evolutionary issues related to the evolution of birds (current dinosaurs) will also be addressed, namely the appearance of feathers and flight.
The second part of this course will deal with the role that dinosaurs play in popular culture, in fields as different as cinema, music or mythology.
The third part will comprise a guided tour of the dinosaur footprints of Praia da Salema and Praia Santa (Vila do Bispo), in which some of the issues previously addressed will be discussed, as well as the application of methodologies for studying dinosaur footprints in a practical context.
