Algarve teachers and educators are invited to spend this Saturday at the Algarve Live Science Center (CCV), in Faro, from 14 pm, to participate in the Teacher's Afternoon, an initiative to start the school year at the center with free admission for those who dedicate their lives to teaching others.

From 15 pm onwards, the workshop «Sculpting Geometry» will take place, promoted by professors Maria da Graça Marques and Marília Pire from the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Algarve, which aims to demonstrate that mathematics does not deserve to be hated and geometry doesn't have to be boring.

«This activity invites math teachers, and beyond, to discover the math of balloons, instant solids and other geometric sculptures. Using colored paper, cardboard, thread, glue and balloons, the geometry will materialize between the hands of the participants», according to the CCV.

In a general perspective, the Professor's Afternoon «aims to make known the new spaces of Ciência Viva do Algarve dedicated to the physics and chemistry of light and the senses, and the wide range of actions, experimental activities and field trips dedicated to the contents programmatic at different levels of education, which may be used by teachers and educators as auxiliary means of promoting more effective learning by students, allowing them to experience experiences not available in the classroom space».

«Among the offer, thematic visits to the Ciência Viva do Algarve stand out, adjusted to the learning goals approved for the 2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary education, in the areas of astronomy, physics and chemistry, biology and geology, and mathematics. There is also a proposal for field trips dedicated to the biodiversity and geology of the Algarve», added the centre.
