About a thousand people attended the Festival of Short Films last weekend. Faro – Farcume, to see the 108 short films that were in the competition.

In the 3rd edition of the event, there were the usual four categories – Animation, Documentary, Fiction and Videoclip – but there were five first places, as in Fiction the first place was shared by two competitors.

More than 20 hours of cinema for all tastes shown at the Hotel and Tourism School of Faro, between 28 and 31 August, attracted an average of about 250 people per day, very interesting numbers for this young festival, organized by Faro 1540 – Association for the Defense and Promotion of the Environmental and Cultural Heritage of Faro.

Something that is not dissociated from the strong international component present, which is also noted in the distribution of prizes.

In animation, for example, the first prize went to the Brazilian film «ED», directed by Gabriel Garcia (Brazil).

In the Documentary, the Portuguese film «Mia mia Sudan Taman Taman» won, by Luís Moya, in Fiction, the short films «Bué Sabi» by Patrícia Delgado and «O Cheiro das Velas» by Adriana Martins da Silva shared first place. aequo and in the Videoclip category the winner was the video «Chama de mil cores» by the band João Lum, directed by Sonat Duyar.

The videos shown were chosen from 164 applications. Although Farcume has parallel sessions, the quantity and quality of the proposals led the organization to decide to increase the festival from three to four days and drop the semi-finals and the final. Thus, the winners were announced on the last day of the festival.

«The festival once again had a strong concern and environmental sensitivity, having drawn up an Environmental Management plan in order to guarantee the optimization of the resources necessary for the promotion and realization of the event, the valorization of the generated waste, being also a Zero Carbon initiative, in other words, FARCUME was completely free of carbon emissions, one of the elements most responsible for the greenhouse effect that contributes to the problematic phenomena of climate change», added the organization.
