The independent candidacy for municipal bodies of Olhão «Novo Rumo» submitted to the Court of Olhão a request for the ineligibility of candidates from three parties in the municipal bodies of September, with special emphasis on those of the PS.

The list delivered includes the names of António Miguel Pina and Francisco Leal, current vice president and mayor, who head the socialist lists for the City Council and Municipal Assembly, respectively.

The movement alleges that the candidates appearing on the list of 12 names that was handed in are "members of social bodies, managing bodies or owners of companies with contracts for continued execution with the Municipality of Olhão".

In the case of the Socialists, in seven of the cases, including that of António Pina, Francisco Leal and two other current councilors and members of the PS candidate list for the Chamber, the request to contest candidacies is justified by the fact that those targeted belong « to the managing bodies of Ambiolhão», a municipal company.

In all, there are seven socialist candidates linked to this company, according to the «Novo Rumo» movement: António Pina, Carlos Martins, António Camacho and Maria Gracinda Rendeiro (candidates for the Chamber) and Francisco Leal, José Manuel Coelho and Ana Brígida Tavares (candidates for the Chamber) AM).

The independent candidacy also calls into question the candidacy of Miguel Dimas to Quelfes and Joaquim Fernandes to the Union of Parishes of Moncarapacho and Fuseta, both by PS.

The list of 12 names also includes candidates from the PSD and the CDU. As far as the Social Democrats are concerned, Luís Ventura Viegas (Chamber) and Luís Salero Viegas (AM) are asked to be ineligible. Regarding the CDU, the candidacy of Sebastião Coelho, head of the list of communists for the City Council, is questioned.

“It requires democratic and procedural transparency that members of governing bodies, managing bodies or company owners, under the aforementioned conditions, be covered by Special Ineligibility. The “Novo Rumo” is confident that the Courts will demonstrate their exemption, before the political power, corroborating the clear ineligibility of the aforementioned individuals for the municipal bodies they intend to run for», revealed the movement, in a press release.

The “Novo Rumo” candidacy is head of the list for the Chamber of Olhão João Pereira, who was elected councilor in 2009 on the Left Block lists. A connection to the blocistas that ended up being cut in the middle of the mandate, when the BE decided to expel João Pereira from the party, an unprecedented decision in the history of this party.

The justification given by BE to remove João Pereira was the "lack of transparency" related to legal proceedings in which the then militant was involved in the past, but João Pereira guaranteed that he provided all the information and claimed that he was being punished for not having supported Manuel Alegre in the presidential elections.
