More than a hundred short films, by directors from different countries, will be made known in Faro, in another edition of the Short Film Festival of Faro Farcume, which runs from the 28th to the 31st of August, at the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School (EHTA).

Over four days, fans of the seventh art will have at their disposal over 20 hours of cinema, to be shown in parallel sessions, much of it national product, but also coming from Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Canada, United States and Germany.

In all, the organization received 164 applications, which were reduced to 106 short films for exhibition. A large amount of proposals, which forced the organization, in charge of the Association Faro 1540, to change the costumes of this 3rd edition of the festival, in relation to the two previous ones.

In addition to keeping the parallel sessions taking place in the EHTA cloisters and inside the school, the Faro 1540 opted to "increase the festival from three to four days" and drop the semi-finals and finals of the contest. «The films will all be shown and the winners will be announced on the last day», revealed association president Bruno Lage to Sul Informação.

“There was a lot of quality in the shorts that came to us and it was a shame to leave out some of them, in some cases awarded shorts. Therefore, we opted to change the model, so that we can show them all», he revealed.

Many of the shorts that will be shown in Faro they will premiere in Portugal, but there are also cases of films that have already been shown and awarded. Bruno Lage gives the example «A Ria, a Água, o Homem» by Manuel Matos Barbosa, an animation work based on texts by Raul Brandão about the Ria de Aveiro, awarded the Silver Trophy for Animation in the «Tour Film Brazil – International Festival», among other distinctions.

This is just one example, not only of the award-winning films to be shown, but of the growing exchange between the two sides of the Atlantic, namely, Portugal and Brazil. Farcume will have a strong contingent of Brazilian short films and directors «who will come on purpose to Faro to attend the Festival».

«This can be seen that the Festival has already taken off internationally», considered Bruno Lage, who recalled that last year there were already international shorts in competition, but not as many as there will be in 2013. «The festival has been growing and people feel more and more enthusiasm and curiosity,” he added.

Farcume is already a meeting place for filmmakers

More than showing short films, Farcume also intends to be «a meeting point for filmmakers» and, why not, a point to promote networking.
Something that is already starting to happen, according to Bruno Lage. "This week I was talking to a director and he told me he was looking for a team to shoot a short film and had already arranged to meet a colleague at the festival, to arrange a future collaboration," he said.

Farcume'13 will be launched on the 28th with the «Urban Sunset» initiative, in the cloisters of EHTA, which will feature a tasting of Algarve wines. This event comes through a partnership between the Faro 1540 and the Algarve Wine Commission.

The party continues with cinema screening throughout the day, followed by social sessions at the «Jamm» bar, in Vila-Adentro de Faro. The same commercial space will host the Festival's closing party, on August 31st.

Tickets to the festival cost 3 euros per day, to be purchased at the venue on the day in question, but anyone who wants can buy a pass valid for all festival days for 8 euros.
