The Chamber of Faro reduced the number of directors, to comply with a law passed about a year ago. Under the new legislation, the municipal bodies were "obliged to reorganize their services".

"In this measure, the directors who were in service commissions cease by extinction or reorganization of the organic unit, giving way to a more comprehensive structure that, despite this, intends to remain effective and operative" explained the Chamber of Faro, in a press release.

No case of Faro, the reorganization entailed the reduction of several Departments and some Divisions, with the elimination of the respective management positions relating, in particular, to the urban area, projects, works and municipal equipment. This change will result in the creation of a new Department of Infrastructure and Urban Planning and in the merger of the Spatial Planning and Urban Regeneration Divisions, as well as the Municipal Projects, Works and Equipment Divisions.

«The Municipality of Faro, in the person of its President, I would like to publicly mark and express a vote of praise to the senior technicians Eng. Virgínia Abreu, Arch. Teresa Valente and Eng. Hélder Palma for the effort and dedication they have given to the municipality over the years and that, due to legal constraints, they will not be able to maintain henceforth, although they continue to perform with the same rigor, demand and professionalism that characterizes them, the noble functions of municipal technicians in their respective areas of competence», stressed the municipality.

In the short term, public competitions will be launched to fill the positions created with this new organization of the autarchy.

Until that happens, Macário Correia determined the designation, in substitution, of the architects Armando Cochado, Ana Paula Gordinho and Filipe Ramos Rosa to the positions of Director of the Department of Infrastructure and Urbanism, Head of the Urban Management Division and Head of the Division of Spatial Planning and Urban Regeneration, respectively, and the engineers Marta Palma Luz and Elisabete de Lemos for the positions of Head of the Municipal Projects, Works and Equipment Division and Head of the Environment, Energy and Mobility Division, respectively.
