Nélia Norte will be the representative of José Vitorino's candidacy for the Chamber of Faro, announced the civic movement «Save Faro, with the Heart', who supports the former mayor of Faro. The Professor of Economics at the University of Algarve was invited due to «her exceptional personal qualities and curriculum, in addition to her absolute independence» and for her connection to the university.

«The candidate feels honored by the acceptance and pays public recognition for the prompt availability shown by this citizen, born and resident in Faro, for this service to the community, embracing the Independent Citizenship to Save Project Faro», illustrated the movement.

Nélia Maria Afonso Norte is a professor at the University of Algarve, with a PhD in Economics, after a Masters in Economics and Business and a Degree in Economics. He has been teaching at UALG since 1995, currently coordinating the 2nd year of the Economics Course and teaching several subjects of Bachelors and Masters.

He attended several specialization courses, published articles in national and international magazines and elaborated and participated in important studies for the Algarve, namely: Labor Market, Trade Unions and Salary Training: a Micro and Macroeconomic perspective; coordination of the Project “Economic and Financial Relations between the Andalusian Community and Portugal”; and more recently, he was part of the Working Group for “Analysis of economic and institutional differences and similarities in the labor markets in the Algarve, Alentejo and Western Andalusia”.
