The month of August begins, in Lagos, with the Festival of Performing Arts «summer blue», promoted by the casaBranca association.

The fourth edition of this initiative, which includes projects in the area of ​​Theatre, Dance, Performance, Cinema and Music/Concerts, as well as a programming area dedicated to children and young people, will take place between August 01st and 17th (days 1, 2, 3, 4 + 8, 9, 10, 11 + 15, 16, 17) in various areas of the city: Lagos Cultural Center, Lagos Experimental Theater (TEL), Creative Activities Laboratory (LAC), Book Fair, Arts and Sabores (Anel Verde car park) and the Old Gil Eanes School.

The entire festival will be broadcast in real time in www.festivalveraoazul.com.

But, throughout the month, there will be much more to animate Lacobrigenses and visitors, from festivals, fairs, concerts, comedy, dances and night baths.

On the 3rd, a show with Joel Xavier is scheduled for the Centro Cultural de Lagos, at 21 pm.

Considered one of the most prestigious guitarists in the world, Joel Xavier returns to Lagos, with «Alegria», an explosion of Lusofonia rhythms, from the samba maracatu and baião do Brasil, to the coladeira and funana from Cape Verde, passing through the semba of Angola, in a unique language in which the guitar is the main protagonist.

Also in this municipal cultural facility, there will be two other shows on 24, 30 and 31. On the 24th, the Commedia Gourmet will take the stage, a show with comedian Chef Eduardo Madeira, author of successful recipes such as “Os Contemporâneos”, “Estado” de Graça” and “Anticrise”, which in Lagos presents a Stand Up Comedy menu, music and truffle reduction, served on a bed of fois gras and in good spirits. A show for gourmet comedy lovers.

At the end of the month, the “star” at CCL will be the Portuguese Magazine “IMF and the 40 et al Mamões”, in which «following TROIKA's guidelines to cut expenses, Teatro Boa Esperança presents the most spectacular, phenomenal, hilarious, sexiest and “best good” Portuguese Magazine».

Also during the month, there will be several concerts in the Pátio do CCL, organized by the Academy of Music of Lagos and integrated in the II Cycle of Ancient Music – Sons Antigos a Sul 2013.

Every Wednesday, at 21 pm, the Cultural Center offers Cinema nights, with the cycle “A Vida na Tela”.

As far as festivals and fairs are concerned, August also has a lot to offer. The XII FETAAL – Algarve Traditions and Arts Fair, takes place at Parque Urbano de Bensafrim, with free entry, between the 9th and 11th of this month. In addition to the display of local crafts and sweets, it is possible to watch scavenger hunts, demonstrations of horse riding, petanque or futsal, and traditional games in the arena. Musical entertainment is also a constant in this event, which has several taverns and inflatables for the little ones.

On the following day, the 10th, from 21 pm, the Odiáxere Folklore Festival will take place in Largo do Moinho, organized by the Odiáxere Folklore and Ethnographic Ranch.

Between the 14th of August and the 01st of September, between 19:00 and 24:00, the Book, Arts and Flavors Fair takes place, taking place in the Anel Verde car park, also with free entry.

This event, organized by FuturLagos, Local Company for Development, has as its main attraction the exhibition and sale of books, local and regional handicraft products, confectionery / gastronomy and other elements of the local economy. Animation will also be a constant feature in the fair's cultural program with the promotion of shows, concerts, film sessions, among other activities.

At the same time, and next to the book exhibition area, there will be a space for the little ones – the children's corner – for fun and educational activities, with paintings and other similar activities.

In the entrance area, next to the archaeological excavations of the gafaria, a small exhibition will be presented alluding to the period of construction of the park, namely the content of the archaeological excavations, the discoveries made and their importance for the study of the historical period of the Discoveries.

To end the month in beauty, there is nothing better than the traditional Bath Festival 29, a manifestation of popular character and a true obligatory ritual in which everyone is invited to take the obligatory night bath in the sea at midnight.

For the little ones, during this month, various leisure activities take place, either within the scope of the “Living Summer” project, or within the scope of animation and awareness activities, which take place on the municipality's beaches as part of the activities of the Blue Flag Campaign “Lagos na Onda do Verão”.

The Live Science Center of Lagos also has several outstanding initiatives and experiences taking place during the summer months, ranging from scientific tours, astronomical observations, visits to engineering works, castles and lighthouses, museums, living science centers, associations and companies.

For lovers of painting and plastic arts, there are several exhibitions throughout the month in various cultural facilities, in particular at the Cultural Center ("Calçada" and "Imargem Lagos 2013" exhibition, at the Municipal Exhibition Center ("Bambu Português" exhibition ”, by Jean Claude and Crafts by João Mascarenhas) and in the Antigos Paços do Concelho (“The Promised Land”).
