Granfer, a company dedicated to the production, conservation, standardization and sale of fresh fruit, is investing in an orchard in Herdade da Barroca, near Mora.

With 26 years of existence, the company is headquartered in Óbidos and its main product is the rock pear. With its own production, it also works with peaches, nectarines, apples, plums and apricots. It produces an average of 20 thousand tons per year, of which it exports around 70% to countries like Brazil, England, Germany, France and Poland.

The plantation in Cabeção consists of 80 hectares of peaches, nectarines and plums, a part planted in 2012 and the rest in 2013. The investment amounts to a total of 1,5 million euros, which includes construction in addition to the plantation. of a warehouse and cold rooms.

The project, which currently employs 10 people, contributes to the region's development and within two years it is expected that 50 people or more will be needed to monitor certain moments of production.

For the Municipality of Mora, "this is a very important investment for the municipality, as it creates jobs in a sector, agriculture, which has been losing them for a long time, throwing many people out of work".

“It's an oxygen balloon for the municipality for the jobs it has already created and for the ones it will still create, thus making a very positive contribution to the growth and development of our economy”, says President Luís Simão.

Innovation is one of the main pillars of Granfer, in a constant search for solutions at the forefront of high technology, as well as differentiation due to the quality of the products sold, always with a view to providing an adequate response to market demands.

The company is considering more investments in the area, depending on the behavior of the orchard and the evolution of the market in the coming years.
