The six associations and clubs that manage the hunting grounds of Monchique are going to help prevent fires in the mountains, having signed a protocol this Friday with the City Council of Monchique, which will allocate them 39 euros.

The protocol provides for actions to Prevent and Fight Forest Fires and also to improve the Agricultural and Forest Road Network.

The municipality wants the associations to actively ensure the management of hunting areas, namely by guaranteeing the «maintenance of existing infrastructures (paths, firebreaks and water points) that allow the creation of areas of forest discontinuity essential for the maintenance/expansion of populations hunting and forest fire prevention and combat'.

Other objectives are to create "minimum conditions for maintaining the habitats of game fauna, enhancing the livelihood of these populations (shelter, food, breeding conditions)", as well as allowing "safety of road traffic in the rural and forest road network that serve these areas of hunting'.

It is also intended to «integrate the entities in the Municipal Civil Protection System, with clear benefits of knowledge of territories on a permanent basis, reporting to the Municipal Civil Protection of situations that may be considered of danger».

The six Hunting Associations/Clubs are: Alferce Hunting and Fishing Association; Monchique Hunting and Fishing Club; Quince Hunters Club; Torre da Guena Hunting and Fishing Club and Moinho do Coreino Hunting and Fishing Club.

Thus, the global budget of 39 thousand euros will be distributed as follows:

– Alferce Hunting and Fishing Association – 4.000 euros
– Monchique Hunting and Fishing Club – 8.800 euros
– Monchiqueiros Hunting and Fishing Association – 11.600 euros
– Quince Hunters Club – 12,000 euros
– Hunting and Fishing Club of Torre da Guena – 1000 euros
– Hunting and Fishing Club Moinho do Coreino – 1.600 euros
