A delegation from the Mozambican region of Nampula spent ten days in Faro to sow the seeds for a twinning between the city that gives its name to the region of the African country and the Algarve capital “as a way of trying to overcome the European crisis and also certain needs felt in the Nampula Region”. The visit took place between the 4th and 12th of June.

«Areas such as tourism, retail, agriculture, civil construction, fuels or professional training were identified as subject to mutual investment, in a twinning project that is intended to be transparent and lasting», revealed the Fuel Consumer Companies Group de Portugal (AECCP), which organized the visit of the official delegation from the municipality of Nampula.

For this collaboration to be possible in the future, one of the «fundamental pillars» of the visit was «the meeting with economic and political agents from the Algarve region, in order to analyze the best strategy so that the know-how of some national sectors can be replicated in Mozambique, but also to see how it will be possible to export Mozambican products to Portuguese land, namely the Algarve».

Among the institutions that were approached by the Mozambican delegation were the University of Algarve, the Regional Tourism Authority of the Algarve and Santa Casa da Misericórdia. Representatives from the region of Mozambique were also involved “in training actions with technicians and municipal leaders”.

On the Mozambican side, «among the various partners already identified, there is also the Grouping of Commercial and Industrial Companies of Mozambique (AECIM), which includes several dozen companies from that African country that intend to invest in Portugal and that, simultaneously, augur the development of tools and skills that allow them to be highly competitive in the respective markets in which they operate».

"Thus, with the objective of also elucidating possible investors in Mozambique, a press conference will be called in due time, to be held in Nampula, in order to publicize the objectives and results of the present visit", assured the AECCP.

«The works ended with a meeting at the City Council of Faro, between representatives of this municipality and those of the Municipality of Nampula, a Mozambican city that seeks, through the intervention of the AECCP, to establish strategic partnerships aimed at optimizing industrial and commercial resources between these two important cities», concluded the organization.
