The direction of Tourism of the Algarve will soon meet with those responsible for the Airport of Faro to talk about the possibility of creating new routes to and from the Algarve region that help to reduce seasonality and to understand “the approach to take” with tour operators.

This was the decision that emerged from a meeting of the Algarve Regional Tourism Authority, held this Monday at the end of the afternoon, which served "to analyze the current situation" and outline future actions, as he revealed to the Sul Informação the president of the entity Desidério Silva.

For now, there is still no clear idea of which air routes will be tried to establish, but the focus should be on "complementary routes" to the existing ones, not necessarily low cost.

«Basically, we are going to continue what Algarve Tourism has been doing», he explained. That is, trying to entice airlines to create flights from interesting outbound markets for the region, in this case, outside the tourist peak season.

Who should not need incentives, taking into account Sheikh Samir Mirdad's statements to TVI, during a visit to the Algarve, is the Saudi royal family, should they decide to invest in the region. The Saudi sheikh, considered one of the most influential men in the Middle East, said that he liked the region and that he even called "His Royal Highness" to convey this good impression and that this would be a good place to invest.

Money is not a problem, as Samir Mirdad insisted on stressing and "from the real, not the fantasy", but he casually said that he would meet with the airport director, because "we would probably have to make our airline fly Here".

According to Desidério Silva, the meeting between Sheikh Samir Mirdad and the director of the Airport of Faro it really happened and this investment is an open possibility, but for now it is only in this field. “We met and addressed the issue of investment. We also accompanied him in some of the contacts he made», he revealed. For now, "there is nothing concrete, but we are waiting for developments".

At the same time, the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) established partnerships with more than 20 Tour Operators from various markets, with a view to boosting the tourist activity and the regional economy, agents with which it develops new operations, campaigns of marketing joint ventures and/or campaigns of hard selling.

An operation that intends to bring more tourists to the Algarve and in which the effort now initiated by the ERTA management could be important.
