The PSD/Algarve considered today, in a statement, that the creation of the Hospital Center of the Algarve is a «way to improve the provision of health care in the region, improving the access and responsiveness of services to the needs of users».

The Algarve Social Democrats emphasize that the creation of this new body that will bring together the two administrations of the Hospitals of Faro and the Barlavento Algarvio in a single entity, yesterday approved by the Council of Ministers, will allow “a better management of health services in our region” and stresses that “this has been one of the measures advocated by the PSD/Algarve with a view to filling the region's health needs”.

The PSD/Algarve is convinced that “with this decision, it will be possible to strengthen the articulation of the hospital activity of both units (Hospital de Faro and Hospital do Barlavento Algarvio), promoting the complementarity between both structures».

«This reorganization of services will allow the Algarve region to increase its self-sufficiency compared to other health units in the country, leading to the avoidance of several transfers to central hospitals in Lisbon and the north. With the approval of this new management model, there is a clear gain for the Algarve, who will thus have more and better health care», added the Social Democrats in their statement.

This measure, in the opinion of the Algarve PSD, “will lead to the creation of economies of scale in the area of resource management, which will help to make it possible to reduce expenditure by avoiding some cost reductions in services to users. Also in the area of human resources there will be gains of scale with the reinforcement of the articulation and complementarity of both hospitals».

For Luis Gomes, president of the PSD/Algarve, “this is an extremely important measure for the Algarve. In a region with health care deficits, this decision reinforces the hospitals' capacity for action and will bring direct gains to those who need to resort to health care. In the wake of the good work carried out by the Regional Health Administration and the hospital directorates, we now see our response capacity strengthened in the national panorama».
