«A silted up bar and the destroyed docks for unloading fish are two examples that portray the state of abandonment to which the authorities have voted the fishing port of Albufeira», denounces Fernando Anastácio, PS candidate for the Council of Albufeira, today.

During these days, Fernando Anastácio and the Plataforma Cívica Albufeira Consigo went to meet the fishermen and what they observed and heard directly from those responsible for the Association of Fisheries Professionals confirms, in their opinion, «the disaster of the government's disinvestment policy» in the most various sectors of economic activity.

To the desolate environment of the port, there is also the lack of a gas station, to which is added what Fernando Anastácio considers as «an unprecedented case»: the fact of being the entity responsible for the management of that port structure «to do deal with the price of electricity'.

In fact, denounces the candidate, «the IPTM sells electricity at twice the price it pays, thus raising the operational costs of fishing professionals who are faced with the degradation of equipment and structures, as well as the lack of conditions in general for the exercise of the activity».

«The State, through IPTM, continues to assume itself as an “absent owner” who “only appears to receive”, was the dominant complaint received by the socialist candidate for the Council of Albufeira, demanding that the government assume its responsibilities». denounced yet.

Anastácio defends, alternatively, that the City Council as a local entity, precisely under the legislation that allows riverfronts in urban areas to pass under the jurisdiction of Municipal Councils, manage this infrastructure, «thus creating conditions for an improvement in the conditions of fishing professionals' work, thus preventing the economic difficulties of these professionals from continuing to increase”.

Anastácio also defends as a «determining factor for the improvement of the fishermen's living conditions» in the municipality, the «strengthening of the cold chain as an essential element of the commercial valorization of fish».

They operate in the fishing port of Albufeira, with close to seven dozen boats and over a hundred professionals.
