The contract for water supply and sanitation in peripheral areas of the municipality of Faro, a project that will motivate an investment of more than 2,5 million euros, had its official start last week. Since Friday on the ground, the intervention, when completed, will guarantee "a coverage of 99 percent of water in the municipality and 94 percent of sanitation".

Localities in all parishes of the county are contemplated, however there will be a greater concentration of work in the following areas: Goldra de Baixo, Cerro Manuel Viegas, Azinhal, Amendoeira, Ferradeira, Galvana, Canada, Jardina, Besouro, Meloal, Monte Xerife and Caminho of the Vases.

The period of execution of the work is 8 months, that is, it should be completed before the end of 2013. The work of the municipal company Fagar was awarded to the company Maja Construções.

In the symbolic act that marked the start of the work, which took place last Friday at Conceição de Faro, the mayor of Faro Macário Correia stressed that «the municipality of Faro in terms of water, everything is practically resolved and in terms of sanitation we also have acceptable percentages and within European standards», according to a press release from the municipality.

This project is 85% co-financed by the Cohesion Fund through the POVT – Operational Program Valorização do Território.

47,7 kilometers of water supply pipelines;

533 water supply branches;

1 water supply lift station;

1,5 kilometers of water supply pipeline;

14,7 kilometers of sanitation collectors;

258 sanitation branches.
