The Algarve will be the only transition region in Portugal, announced David Santos, president of the Commission for Regional Coordination and Development (CCDR), during a meeting with the representative of the European Union Regional Policy (DG Regio) Rosalina Bernon.

"An extra financial envelope of one billion euros has been defined for the country and the Algarve will be the only Transitional region in Portugal, for which reason it may aspire to a reinforcement of 75 million euros", revealed David Santos.

The meeting took place within the scope of the working visit to the Algarve that Rosalina Bernon carried out last week, to learn about the current situation in the region and future perspectives, as part of the regular monitoring of the Algarve Regional Operational Program (PO Algarve 21).

On March 5, the representative of DG Regio met in Faro with the president of the CCDR, public entities and regional business associations, while on the second day he visited projects financed by structural funds in Olhão, Tavira, Lagoa and Vila do Bispo.

The meeting served to present an overview of the work and contributions that the CCDR, since the beginning of the year, has been collecting from the most varied sectors to enrich the prospective diagnosis of the region, in the framework of the preparation of the next tranche of Community Funds, for the period 2014 – 2020.

Rosalina Bernon and her entourage visited the company Sparos, in Olhão, the Islamic Museum Center and the Church of Nossa Senhora das Ondas, in Tavira, the Rehabilitation of Baixa and Litoral in Carvoeiro, in Lagoa, and the visit ended in Sagres, in Fortaleza and at Martinhal Resort.
