The Breast Cancer Screening for women between 50 and 69 years old is taking place at the Loulé Health Center until 22 April, promoted as part of the Breast Cancer Screening Program in the Algarve.

All women aged between 50 and 69 years living in the municipality of Loulé will receive an appointment/invitation by letter to undergo a free mammogram, at the mobile unit located at the headquarters of the Loulé Health Centre.

Screening is free and is an opportunity that should be taken advantage of. If you are between 50 and 69 years old, and have not yet received the appointment/invitation letter, contact the Health Center to update your data and address. In case of doubts, call the ARS Algarve Tracking Center at 289 889 912.

Launched in September 2005, the Breast Cancer Screening Program in the Algarve, under the responsibility of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve and organized in collaboration with the Oncological Association of the Algarve, follows European guidelines and is aimed at women healthy individuals residing in the Region between 50 and 69 years of age and its main objective is to detect breast cancers at an early stage of development in order to achieve the highest possible survival rates with less aggressive treatments.

In Portugal, around 4.400 cases of breast cancer are detected every year, with breast cancer being the most frequent cause of cancer in women, representing 1 in 6 cancer deaths and around 1.500 deaths each year. The main strategy to combat it is to anticipate the diagnosis through screening by mammography from the age of 50 onwards.
