PSD deputy Mendes Bota again insisted, after twenty years, on the need to link the «zone of great wealth and economic productivity of the Foral, between S. Bartolomeu de Messines and Tunes, to the IC1».

This is an old cause of this Algarve parliamentarian, whose justification is now even more evident, after the construction of the Lisbon-Algarve highway. That was exactly what the deputy addressed to the Government.

According to Mendes Bota, "this is an area with intense agricultural, flower-growing, fruit and nursery activities, with a strong export component, not to mention a wide range of inland tourism units and companies in various sectoral activities, which employ thousands of people" .

Therefore, he considers that «it is hardly understandable that a Complementary Itinerary like this one, which connects Lisbon to the Algarve, has a stretch of such a large extension without any connection to the economic fabric surrounding the road».

«QUESTIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT

Subject: ACCESS FROM THE ROAD BETWEEN TUNES AND S. BARTOLOMEU DE MESSINES TO THE IC1 IN THE FORAL SITE

Recipient: Ministry of Economy and Employment

Hon. Mrs. President of the Assembly of the Republic

For more than twenty years, the population, companies and local forces and local authorities in the municipality of Silves have been demanding the construction of an access road that connects Tunes and S. Bartolomeu de Messines to the IC1, in the area designated as Foral.

It is an area with intense agricultural, flower, fruit and nursery activities, with a strong export component, not to mention a wide range of inland tourism units and companies with different sectoral activities, which employ thousands of people.

It is hardly understandable that a Complementary Itinerary such as this one, which links Lisbon to the Algarve, has a section of such a large extension without any connection to the economic fabric surrounding the road.

Under the most powerful arsenal of applicable constitutional, legal and regulatory provisions, you are requested to please obtain answers to the following questions from the Ministry of Economy and Employment:

1- Does this Ministry recognize the reasonableness, necessity and usefulness of the intention to build an access to the IC1 to serve the Foral area, between Tunes and S. Bartolomeu de Messines?

2- Does Estradas de Portugal SA intend to carry out this work? Is there a project already?

3- If so, what is the foreseeable timetable for its implementation?

.
