«Science and Education in the Algarve in the 12th and 15th centuries» is the theme of the lecture by Patrícia de Jesus Palma, scheduled for next Saturday, January 00th, at XNUMX pm, at the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos.

According to the author, “the objective of this lecture is to bring to light the actors who, in the Algarve in the late XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, developed a valiant action in favor of education and progress. From Mathematics to Agronomy, we will see how the social need for popular and higher education was created, making known the action of men of science and letters who lived here, such as José de Sande Vasconcelos, D. Francisco Gomes do Avelar, António Maria Couceiro, Domingos Rodrigues Anes Baganha, or Alexandre de Sousa Figueiredo”.

Patrícia de Jesus Palma is a Master in Portuguese Studies and a doctoral candidate in the Portuguese Studies course at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. His doctoral project focuses on the issue of the formation of literate culture in a peripheral space in Contemporary Portugal (Algarve: 1820-1920).

On this topic, he has carried out or actively participated in exhibitions, scientific events and colloquiums and prepared original studies for publication.

This lecture is part of the monthly space «Ciência à Conversa» where Science and Technology topics are presented to the general public by researchers.
