The president of Turismo do Algarve Desidério Silva met yesterday with representatives of EVA Transportes on mobility and road transport in the region.

One of the issues discussed was the direct bus connection between the Algarve capital and the airport of Faro, the main gateway for foreign tourists to the destination.

Still within the scope of the tourist development of the Algarve, Desidério Silva met with the direction of the Portuguese Association of Recreational Ports. The Algarve's nautical infrastructure – especially the marinas of Lagos, Portimão, Albufeira and Vilamoura, the largest in the country – suffers from strong competition from Spanish equipment, a fact that will lead those responsible for Tourism and marinas to try to find solutions to increase competitiveness and the wealth generated by that equipment.

The Employment and Professional Training Institute, another essential partner for the sector, was also heard by Turismo do Algarve in this round of meetings. The objective is to bring the two entities together, increase information to tourist entrepreneurs about the existing support measures and strengthen the training of hotel professionals.

The Algarve Tourism Board plans to establish new partnerships in these areas with these and other regional partners.
