The Municipality of Tavira opened a procedure for the rehabilitation of Municipal Road 397 (EM397), which connects the city of Tavira to the village of Cachopo, at an estimated value of 264.962,50 euros.

This road, about 42 kilometers long, is one of the fundamental axes connecting the coast to the territory of the municipality of Tavira located in the Serra do Caldeirão, namely in the parishes of Santa Maria, Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo and Cachopo.

Currently, the EM397 presents depressions in the carriageway in several places, with poor circulation conditions that have been worsening with the increase in the traffic of heavy vehicles, due to the absence of any maintenance interventions since the delivery of this lane by the Junta Autónoma das Estradas, about twenty years ago, and the strong storms that occurred in the winter of 2011.

The work is launched following other emergency interventions carried out over the course of the current year at the Vale Murta and Portela da Corcha sites.

In order to guarantee the safety of its users and improve traffic, the intervention includes milling the pavement in some sections of the road, opening a box, placing a tout-venant and putting in place a wearing course in bituminous concrete.

The road will have an average width of 6,50 meters, with 0,50 meters of paved shoulders and natural ditches.

This work is part of a set of contracts that the Municipality of Tavira intends to carry out in order to improve accessibility in the municipality.
