Most Portuguese will spend New Year's Eve at home, with friends and family, because times are one of contention. But in the Algarve there are many proposals to spend the year, for all tastes and budgets, in programs organized mostly by the Municipal Councils, marked by strong savings.
So, this Monday, December 31st, in Monte Gordo, the celebrations of the longest night of the year begin at 22:00, with the «Duo Reflexo», which will animate the thousands of visitors until very close to midnight.
When the twelve chimes strike, the new year begins with fireworks in the Bay of Monte Gordo.
In the early hours of 2013, the stage, installed in a giant tent on Avenida Marginal, will be animated by the mythical Algarve band «ÍRIS», which promises to bring generations together in a concert that will not lack a good mood.
In the lineup, there will be many of the mandatory themes that have dictated the success of the training over the years, such as «Atira't'o mar», «Oh mother!» and «Isolated from the world».
From 2:00 onwards, the dance floor opens, with sound controls in charge of the dj/producer «Rosabrava» (by Guadiprod). Night out, dj «Glowjack» will close the celebrations.
On December 31, the entertainment will also extend to Praça Marquês de Pombal, in Vila Real de Santo António, where Zé Aníbal will play from 22:30.
Expensive Soul and Filipa Sousa headlines in Albufeira
The artist from Albufeira, Filipa Sousa, who represented Portugal at the 2012 Eurovision festival, accompanied by DJ Gonzalez, is one of the highlights of the New Year's Eve poster at the Câmara de Albufeira, in the usual setting at Praia dos Pescadores.
The municipality bet on the house's silver to launch the end-of-the-year party, starting at 22 pm. Later, at 23 pm, the main band of the night, Expensive Soul, who are already a reference in the national music scene, takes to the stage, a show that, for the organization, promises to be “memorable”.
In this case, the rhythms will be Soul, Reggae, Hip-Hop and R&B. Among the hits that Expensive Soul are expected to bring to Albufeira are songs like «O Amor é Mágico», «Eu não Sei» and «Falas Disso».
So that the audience is already very excited when the main band starts its performance, the municipality of Albufeirense opted for the duo composed of Filipa Sousa and DJ Gonzalez, with a more agitated register, to the rhythm of dance music.
DJ Gonzalez, producer of House Music for over a decade, is known for his talent and versatility in the “dancefloor”.
Resident DJ at the MITTO bar (Albufeira) for four years, Gonzalez shared the booth with great national and international figures such as Harry Choochoo Romero, Dutribe Sound System and Pete Tha Zouk. Among other distinctions, he was nominated for DJ Revelation in 2007.
In addition to music, there will also be light and color on the last night of the year, in Albufeira. At midnight, anyone in the Areia de S. João and Oura area will also be able to watch the fireworks that will be launched from the Plaza de Toros building.
But it's not just the sky that will be lit up. Avenida Sá Carneiro will be covered by Hollywood's “real stars” who will recreate scenes and environments from movies and musicals. The artists are from Star Parede, which promises to surprise with beautiful performances and numbers of great visual impact.
Music and firework welcome the new year in Quarteira
Quarteira will welcome the new year of 2013 with lots of music and fireworks. In a joint organization of the Loulé municipality and Quarteira Parish Council, Praça do Mar will host, at 23 pm, a concert with the musical group Essência, which will bring the rhythms of Forró, Kizomba, Semba, Kuduro and Funaná to Quarteira. Emanuel Silva (keys), Paulo Conceição (bass guitar) and Bruno Canário (percussion and voice) will liven up the night.
When the twelve strikes announce the New Year, a pyromusical show takes place that will light up the sky in Quarteira.
At 00:15, the group Essência returns to the stage at Praça do Mar to continue the party that will continue into the night.
This initiative is free to enter and will be an entertainment complement for the thousands of people who head to the Algarve for a short break, taking advantage of the entertainment proposals on New Year's Eve.
Olhão with Maya and DJ Pedro Tabuada
In Olhão, it was not the City Council that organized the year-end festivities, but a company, headed by entrepreneurs Carlos Rosado and Maya. Therefore, at the Jardim do Pescador, entry is paid.
Those who opt for dinner and ticket on the 31st will pay 45 euros, while those who just want to party, after dinner, will pay 15 euros on that day.
The poster for the party on the last day of the year will be filled with DJ Pedro Tabuada and also resident DJ Super Mário, with the presence of Maya, Daniela P. and Filipa Castro.
So, this evening, at the turn of the year, the artist Daniela P. will come on stage, who will perform «two or three themes». Tonight, businesswoman Maya said, other familiar faces will be present.
Fireworks and DJ Deelight in Portimão and Rocha
From 23:00 on December 31, the Miradouro Dance Spot party with DJ Deelight starts in Praia da Rocha's viewpoint area, with the most dancing themes marking the final seconds of this year and welcoming 2013, accompanied by sky by the usual fireworks that will be launched from midnight on the riverside area of Portimão and Praia da Rocha.
After years of marking New Year's Eve with wild posters, Portimão now offers a much more modest program, based on the house's silver. But even then animation will not be lacking.
Mutant Plant in Faro
New Year in Faro it will be in Jardim Manuel Bivar, as in previous years, with music, animation and fireworks.
The entry into 2013 will be made by the hand of the Algarve group “La Plante Mutante” and the party will then continue with music until 4 am.
At midnight, the fireworks – offer to the city of hotels Faro and Eva and the Parish Councils of Sé and S. Pedro – will mark the arrival of the new year.
The Party is an organization of the Municipality of Faro, from the Moto Club of Faro and from Ambifaro, with the support of Cerveja Sagres.
Bathing in the sea and concerts on the 1st
Praia do Pintadinho, in Ferragudo, receives tomorrow, January 1st, at 11 am, the VII Bath in the Sea of Ferragudo. The initiative is organized by the local Parish Council and is open to all brave people who want to start the year with a more or less cold dip in the sea.
In Loulé, the music is different: thus, the Cine-Teatro Louletano receives, on the 1st, at 17 pm, the Orquestra do Algarve's New Year Concert, conducted by Maestro Cesário Costa. The program includes the waltzes and polkas of Johann Strauss II (00 – 1825), so joy is guaranteed. Admission is paid.
In Tavira, a classical music concert by a quartet of musicians from the Choir of the São Carlos National Theater, accompanied by the piano, will liven up the Igreja do Carmo, on January 1st, at 17 pm.
