This Friday, the deputy to the Assembly of the Republic elected by the Algarve, Mendes Bota welcomed the unanimous ratification of the Convention of the Council of Europe for the Prevention and Combat of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.

The Algarve deputy for the PSD is also the General Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, so "couldn't be happier" with the outcome of the vote, said a press release.

In an intervention he made in the AR on the ratification of the convention, Mendes Bota even assumed that the treaty would be approved, not least because, as evidenced by the unanimity of the decision, there was a clear consensus on the matter.

By approving it, Portugal "will be applying the regime pact that in this matter unites all the forces and political sensibilities of the country", he considered.

“Oh, how beautiful and good it would be if this miracle were possible in other areas of society. But by doing so, this Parliament will be contributing to the right to happiness of many millions of human beings, predominantly women,” she said.
