«It was a good General Strike!». It was in this way that the head of the Union of Unions of Algarve António Goulart assessed the strike today, whose adhesion on the street «was much higher than the previous ones», namely those that occurred in March of this year and in November 2011.

Regarding the participation of workers, it was also higher than usual, despite the «differentiated adhesions» depending on the sector of activity. "The schools had a huge adhesion, as well as the Private Institutions of Social Solidarity, the Misericórdias and the local authorities, in the aspect of garbage collection", he said.
"We also noticed a big growth in the adhesion of the retail trade workers compared to other General Strikes", he added.
For António Goulart, the increase in membership is linked to the fact that «one of the priorities of the Government, since it took office, has been to reduce social protection, labor rights and reduce wages», adding that «it is largely responsible for creation and unemployment'.
"I have no memory of a government that has had three general strikes in just a year and a half," he concluded.
