The book «Portugal Surf Guide», the first Portuguese surf guide, by António Pedro de Sá Leal and Francisco Cipriano, will be launched in Sagres, at the Memmo Baleeira hotel, next Saturday, November 24th, at 19 pm.

After the presentation on the 11th of October in Peniche, at the World Surfing Championship, and a presentation in Lisbon at the FNAC in Colombo, on the 9th, the «Portugal Surf Guide» will now be presented in the Algarve, in a moment which will also be a meeting of the surfing community in this area of the country.

Portugal is today a central country in world surfing and a surfing destination par excellence, with waves for all types of surfing, from the professional to the beginner's level.

It was for this reason that António Pedro de Sá Leal and Francisco Cipriano made the first bilingual guide of the best places to surf in mainland Portugal and islands.

Suitable for all surfers, from the most experienced to the beginners, this guide aims to fill an important space in the structuring of the wave offer in Portugal and, above all, internationally, by assuming itself as the first complete inventory of places with good conditions for the practice of surfing.

At the same time, it aims to contribute to an overall view of surfing in our country, promoting Portugal as a surf destination in a simple, direct and effective way.

This guide, although using available information sources, has an essentially exploratory character, based on a unique experience lived by the authors who have visited all the referenced places from North to South of the country, including the islands.

The «Portugal Surf Guide» takes on a portable format, in a bilingual Portuguese/English edition, ready to take on the next surf trip in Portugal. The edition is in charge of Uzina Books and is already on sale.

The «Portugal Surf Guide» was organized into seven regional chapters, one for each Portuguese region: North, Centre, Lisbon, Alentejo, Algarve, Azores and Madeira.

In each region, it presents with a description of the main characteristics of surfing and identifies the surfing places, presenting a graphic display of their location, using a highlight on the map of Portugal.

The fundamental elements of the wave are dealt with at each location: consistency, wave type, crowd, best swell, best wind and best tide, while providing information about the location, ie accessibility conditions, amenities and parking.

In order to complement the description, the guide relies on testimonials from local surfers, stressing the importance of each location for surfing. The spots are also accompanied by a photograph that illustrates the wave in full operation.

The rigor of photographic quality also marks the «Portugal Surf Guide», being this work in charge of André Carvalho, a prominent name in surf photography. André Carvalho has photographs published in several surf magazines and presents here a careful work in illustrating the universe of Portuguese waves.
