The Dr. José Formosinho Municipal Museum, in Lagos, presents an evocative exhibition of the 150 years since the birth of António Crisógono dos Santos, open to the public until the 27th of January.

The exhibition seeks to highlight the Municipal Fototeca's collection and, at the same time, pay homage to one of the most distinguished photographers in Lagos at the beginning of the XNUMXth century.

António Crisógono dos Santos was born in Sertã on November 24, 1862 and died in Lagos on April 29, 1934.

Photographer Amador, illustrated postcard editor and trader, showed great sensitivity to everyday things, reproducing people, places and events that today constitute an important heritage of the collective memory of Lagos.

It was through his action as a member of the Administrative Commission of the Lagos City Council that the Feira Franca de Lagos was established in 1931. It also played an important role in the installation of the city's sewage system, in electrification and in accessing riverside areas.

This exhibition, which will be open to the public at the Dr. José Formosinho Municipal Museum until the 27th of January, features 26 reproductions, in A3 format, of postcards by AC Santos, illustrative of places, people and events in Lagos registered in the first three decades of the XNUMXth century.

Ten panels in the same format provide information about the man, the artist and his work.

The Hotel Tivoli Lagos, located at Rua António Crisógono dos Santos, the organization sponsoring the exhibition, will also have an exhibition under the same theme consisting of 10 reproductions of postcards by AC Santos, from 24 November, the date of the anniversary, and the day of the awards ceremony for the XNUMXth “Lagos é Natural” Digital Photography Contest, an initiative integrated in the Blue Flag Campaign that this year is taking place in this hotel.
