The study of environmental incidences of the Estoi high concentration photovoltaic plant (Faro) is in public consultation until December 12th.

O Non-Technical Summary The study indicates that the project foresees the implementation of a power of the order of 3 MegaWatts, with which it is estimated to produce around 7,15 GigaWatt.hour/year.

«This same energy, produced in a “conventional” way, would require an annual consumption of coal of around 919 tons or 669 thousand cubic meters of natural gas. Thus, the same energy production would imply the emission of about 1 444 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, comparing the equivalent energy production (7,15 GWh) by "conventional" methods, considering the "cleanest" fuel - natural gas , or 2 625 tonnes of CO2 if the fuel used is considered to be coal”, the study authors add.

The projects of electrical production centers that use renewable energy sources, located in areas of the National Ecological Reserve (REN), Natura 2000 Network Sites or the National Network of Protected Areas, are subject to an Environmental Incidence Assessment procedure (AIncA ), prior to licensing.

Of the various phases of this procedure, the technical assessment of the Environmental Incidence Study and the Public Consultation stand out.

The Public Consultation's main objective is to provide the broad participation of entities and the public interested in the project, through the collection of opinions, suggestions and other contributions about the project, before it is licensed.

Within the scope of the Public Consultation process, all presentations presented in writing will be considered and appreciated, as long as they are specifically related to the project under evaluation.

These exhibitions must be addressed to the president of CCDR Algarve until the end of the public consultation.

Licensing (or authorization) for the project can only be granted after the Declaration of Favorable or Conditional Favorable Environmental Incidences, issued by the Secretary of State for the Environment and Spatial Planning, or after the deadline for its issuance has elapsed.
