The PSD/Algarve congratulates the government for the 15% reduction in the cost of the amount to be paid on the A22 (Via do Infante) tolls, but asks for "more effort from the executive in seeking solutions to this problem in the region".

The Algarve Social Democrats also say that “the decision that allows freight transport companies to continue to benefit from an additional 10% discount on tickets during the day and 25% at night is equally important. This measure is important for promoting the circulation of vehicles on that road that has substantially lost traffic since the toll system came into operation'.

The PSD/Algarve states that “it has always been against the introduction of tolls on the A22, as there is clearly no credible, safe and fast alternative to this main route”.

«As a result of the decision to introduce tolls, circulation in the Algarve in summer was made difficult, which brought losses to companies in the region and left a less positive image for tourists who visit us», stresses that party.

This structure understands that the national effort to consolidate public accounts “is fundamental and must be shared by all”. However, we don't forget that the government inherited a real “financial monster” regarding the SCUT business in Portugal».

Luís Gomes, president of the PSD/Algarve commented on the government's measure, saying that “the reduction in the value of tolls is good news for the Algarve and will help the region's economic fabric, however, it is necessary that the government make an additional effort in the search for solutions that can relieve the Algarve and their companies from this payment to which we are subject. Following the programs developed for the region to reduce unemployment, it is also necessary to continue the effort to alleviate companies in the Algarve».
