Faro will have AEC soon using parent associations

Parent Associations of schools in the municipality of Faro will take on the responsibility of hiring teachers for the Activities […]

Parent Associations of schools in the municipality of Faro they will assume the responsibility of hiring teachers for the Extra Curricular Activities (AEC), since, mainly due to the restrictions imposed by the Law of Commitments, the City Council cannot do so directly.

«It is not easy through the City Council to hire teachers for the AEC, we are going to do it through the parents' associations», announced the municipality.

The City Council revealed that it had met with the associations of parents from the Basic Education schools of Bom João, São Luís, Carmo, Vale Carneiros, Montenegro, Alto Rodes and the Casa do Povo of Estoi (as a Private Institution of Social Solidarity, as the Basic Schools of the 1st cycle of the Estoi Group do not have a parent association constituted) with the objective of «discussing the problem and pointing to a feasible solution in the shortest possible time».

«All (except the Parents Association of Montenegro) showed the best availability to cooperate with the Municipality and groups of schools in improving the pedagogical conditions of children, assuming this responsibility».

The solution is for parents' associations to constitute themselves as promoters of the AEC, requesting authorization from the Regional Directorate of Education for this purpose.

In this way, the Municipality no longer receives the corresponding amount to cover the costs with the AEC and the Regional Directorate of Education of the Algarve will transfer the amount directly to the associations.

This measure was soon adopted by the Association of Parents of Escola EB1 do Bom João, which is the only educational establishment in the municipality with AEC since the beginning of the school year.

The City Council also adds that "it continues to monitor the entire process and is available to provide all the support to parents' associations and other stakeholders with a view to quickly solving this matter."
