Docapesca continues to promote the consumption of Mackerel in the Municipal Markets of the Algarve and the next stop is in Lagos, on Friday. Between 10 am and 12 pm, chefs and students from the Hotel and Tourism Schools of Portimão will demonstrate different ways of making this nutritious fish and give it to the general public to taste, free of charge, at the Santo Amaro Municipal Market.

This is also a way of promoting the Mediterranean Diet, which was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010 and of which “our country's dietary pattern is a good example”, stressed Docapesca.

Fish is one of the central elements of the national diet, with the Portuguese at the top of the list of people who consume more fish per capita, which leads us to import a large part of the fish we consume. Something that reinforces the importance of Mackerel, a species that is abundant in our waters and for fisheries for which quotas are not imposed by the European Union.

It is a case of saying that, unlike other species whose consumption is more common among those who appreciate good Portuguese food, in the case of Mackerel it is really about the possibility of eating to your heart's content. Even more when you have the help of professionals to learn different ways of cooking, for a change.

In addition to the gastronomic and economic component, Mackerel is also a fish with a high content of Omega 3 and is very nutritious, that is, it is a healthy food and with high doses of some of the nutrients that we recommend eating every day.
