The fifth edition of the Portuguese Water Dog Breed Contest will take place in Lagos on October 7th. The tests will take place in the morning, in the riverside area, near Fort Ponta da Bandeira.

The tests will start at 10:00 am, with the Beauty Contest taking place at Jardim da Constitution. About an hour later, it will be the turn of the four-legged participants to show what they are worth in the Work Test with CACT dispute. (Qualification for the National Championship), which will take place at Cais da Solaria (10:45 – admission period). Here, the test provides for participation in levels I, II or III (experimental).

Symbol of a culture specific to the fishing arts, once part of the crew of any fishing boat in the Algarve, the Portuguese Water Dog was in danger of extinction.

Fortunately, this did not happen and it has been much sought after as a companion animal because of the particular way it lives with humans.

He has a unique personality, where he is notorious for his unusual instinct and intelligence, loyalty and friendship with the owner or even his courage, determination and physical strength.

The Cais da Solaria, where the Work Test takes place every year, was considered the only place in the world where it is possible to train this dog breed.

This initiative has the collaboration of the Municipality of Lagos, Association for the Protection of the Portuguese Water Dog and Kennel da Buba.
