Silves City Council will release funds that were previously allocated to other issues in order to pay for school transport, according to a decision taken at the executive's meeting last week.

Isabel Soares, president of the municipality, revealed to the Sul Informação that this release of funds will be done through the «resolution of all works that are in progress», the establishment of a «payment agreement to Águas do Algarve, as well as the use of the 2011 management balance, thus creating , conditions for the existence of funds to carry out school transport”.

In other words, the mayor also clarified, the Chamber of Silves will no longer have "commitments with works that are at a standstill or with contracts whose contractors have gone bankrupt or are insolvent."

In the case of payment to Águas do Algarve, «an amount of about 1,5 million overdue invoices is at stake, referring to 2011, since the 2012 invoices are being paid in accordance with the indications provided for in the budget of State". But the scaling up of payments will allow some funds to be released.

All this financial gymnastics It is intended to ensure that the Municipality of Silves will be able to raise enough money to be able to put the school transport into operation, since the Law of Commitments makes it impossible to resolve the issue in any other way.

«Transport may not be available on the first day of classes, but we believe that by the end of September 2012 everything will be going smoothly and legally», guaranteed Isabel Soares.
