Alcoutim will host officials and technicians from museums and related organizations in Portugal and Spain at the 19st Transfrontier Meeting of Museum Professionals, which will take place at the Castelo Auditorium from October 20th to XNUMXth. One of the main objectives of the event is to kick-start closer collaboration between the Algarve and Andalusia regions in this sector.
The first edition of the event will be under the theme "Museums and Accessibility", a "central issue for museum professionals", according to the organization.
“Museums are places of memory and identity that tell stories, for this it is necessary to use multidisciplinary tools – communication, art, design – in order to reach audiences and make these spaces socially useful”, according to a press release sent to essays.
The meeting is organized by the Portuguese Association of Museology (APOM) and the Association of Museologists and Museographers of Andalusia (AMMA), in partnership with the Alcoutim Sanlúcar Cross-border Association (ATAS) and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.
APOM and AMMA “have the mission of grouping and increasing the qualification of professionals who work in museums and similar bodies, with the objective of raising the level of technical services provided to these entities and, through them, to society”.
«We propose a meeting in which museology professionals from Portugal and Spain can compare opinions, present projects and dialogue on a topic that concerns the whole of society and that involves the most varied museums in both countries: physical accessibility in historic buildings with a high degree of protection, information and communication technologies (ICT) as a decisive factor for people with disabilities to develop socially and culturally with total normality, and, finally, the different audiences and ways of communicating with each one of them, providing the information that each one requires», summarize the organizing associations.
The program counts on the presence of “speakers with a wide experience in these sectors, either because of their current professional situation, or as university researchers on this topic”. For more information, registration and pre-program, just visit the event website.
