O Sul Informação makes one year of life today! Our newspaper - and I say ours because the Sul Informação is a newspaper produced by a team of journalists and has been cherished by many thousands of readers, so it is truly ours – it has grown a lot in this first year of life.

This year, we were launching new themes, new stories, new products and content. On social networks, namely on Facebook, the Sul Informação it is already the regional newspaper in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo with the most fans, with around 4200 fans.

On Sunday, we even reached 151.300 people and had 8394 people talking about us and our publications on Facebook. Of course, it was a little abnormal day, due to the big fire in the Retail Park in Portimão. But the average range of Sul Informação on Facebook it is located every day at 25.000 people, which is proof of the interest that our work arouses.

As happened on many other occasions, such as the Tavira and São Brás fires or, more recently, the Portimão Retail Park fire, our readers know that if something happens in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo, the Sul Informação is there and gives the information first hand. Any time of day or night, any day of the week.

O Sul Informação it's an online newspaper and it's probably going to stay that way, although there are those who keep asking us: "so when will the real paper newspaper come?". O Sul Informação it's an online newspaper, just on the internet for now, and it's a real newspaper. It is enough to see not only the degree of notoriety that we have already achieved in this year of life, among our readers, but also the number of times that our newspaper has been cited in national media – newspapers and radios. And the number of times that, although not quoting us, some of these bodies use our work...

As an online newspaper, the Sul Informação it has already reached an average of 5000 daily readers, a goal that, a year ago, we had defined as possible to reach in three years. But we did it in just one year.

This average, however, is often subject to audience peaks, which have already reached 16 thousand unique daily visitors, as happened in the days of July when Serra do Caldeirão was devoured by violent fires.

The fact that we are always at the forefront, in reporting, publishing content – texts and images – produced by our own reporting teams makes a difference in the panorama of regional media.

No Sul Informação every day there are reports, articles, interviews, chronicles, images, produced by our own team and not simply provided by any communication office of a Chamber or a company.

During this first year of life, we completed the registration process of the Sul Informação in the Communication Regulatory Authority (ERC) and we took the first steps in the application process of our project to the IEFP and Proder, always with the precious support of CRIA, the Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer of the University of Algarve.

During this first year of life, the Sul Informação had the privilege of being the communication partner (media partner) of numerous important initiatives in the Algarve, from the Academic Week of the University of Algarve, to events related to entrepreneurship (such as Beta Talk or Ignite Algarve), the Investigators' Night , the European Heritage Days, the Medieval Fair of Silves, sporting events, and many, many other events.

All of this has contributed to reinforcing the image of the Sul Informação with the younger and more attentive audience, from 25 to 55 years old, with greater purchasing power and interested in what is new and creative is happening.

Today, to mark the 1st year of life, we have some news: we launched the first of several news aggregators (a kind of micro-site), which brings together sports news in a single space, available on http://desporto.sulinformacao.pt. To get there, just click on the Sports tab on the top bar of our homepage. And with just one click, you'll soon find out everything we've published about Sports, as well as have access to other content, including football rankings. You can also have access to photo galleries related to Sport or the opinion also related to this theme. It is a news aggregator that is still under construction and improvement. Soon we will have more news, for other themes, such as Culture and Shows and Science, among others.

We also launched today the first pop-up ad (from Night of Researchers), a new product that offers other possibilities to our advertisers and commercial partners. But let's not stop here and in the coming weeks and months there will be more news!

This is not a first anniversary marked with a wild party, but the times are not for that. We prefer to celebrate by launching new products for our readers. The party will come later. Or it is done every day, every hour, whenever our readers read a news or see a photo, comment on it or share it.

And now, a year later, the Sul Informação he is a shared “son” of which I am particularly proud.

Just as I consider it a privilege to work with people as extraordinary as the Hugo Rodrigues: Nuno Costa, Carlos Filipe de Sousa, Armindo Vicente, Mariana Soares, Pedro F. Guerreiro, journalists who are part of the team and have so generously contributed to the success of our project.

Or even being able to count on the collaboration of Aurélio Cabrita, Jorge Rocha, Luis Azevedo Rodrigues, Jack Soifer, Nuno Loureiro, Gonçalo Gomes, Ana Carla Cabrita. Or from Rádio Universitária do Algarve (RUA FM).

Or with the competence of Bruno Carlos (Flesk Telecom) and the team at Nova Página, and of so many others who, generously and with all competence, have contributed to making the Sul Informação the small/large newspaper it is today.

And I couldn't forget here, at the end of this first year of life, all my friends, some of them just virtual, but always very present, who have supported us, sharing our website and our news, commenting, criticizing, sending information and photos, or simply (but just as important!) reading the Sul Informação!

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, everyone!!!!

Elisabete Rodrigues, journalist, co-founder and director of Sul Informação
