ARTUR – Artists Unidos em Residência is taking place at LAC – Laboratory of Creative Activities, in Lagos, in two phases, until November 17th.

The artist residency itself began on September 24th and runs until October 7, while the exhibition of the resulting works will take place from October 6th to November 17th, at LAC, located in the former prison of Lagos. The opening of the exhibition is scheduled for 21:30 pm on the 6th.

ARTUR is a project developed by LAC, with unique characteristics in the Algarve region, which involves some of the most important names in the current world street art scene and aims to create decentralized synergies between talent and artistic participation.

In this 2nd edition of ARTUR, LAC invites five national and international artists: C215 from France, SAINER from Poland, and also EIME, MAR and PANTÓNIO, from Portugal.

ARTUR is developed in an artistic residency model, offering participating artists conditions to be able to create and develop their ideas, without the need to build a previous project.

«It is important for us that the interventions are the result of the experience, the breathing of the city, instigating artists who have no direct relationship with the history of Lagos to intervene in this space that belongs to us, the public», stress those responsible for the initiative.

The LAC – Creative Activities Laboratory is a non-profit cultural association formed in 1995 and headquartered in the Old Prison of Lagos.

The building designed by Cottinelli Telmo and whose foundations are built on an old convent, is a place with history that forms an integral part of the city.

Built with other goals, it currently reveals an interesting dichotomy between prison / confinement VS space of creativity / freedom; by becoming a space for creation, it reconverted the molds of its existence, now the cells are a studio space for artists and their use and work contributes to the revitalization of the building, giving it a new history.

The association is an artistic residency space with 13 years of existence, whose priority is to develop and expand the PRALAC - Artist Residency Program in LAC, with the main objective of energizing and promoting artistic creation in the region and especially in the Southwest Algarve. .
