Between the 23rd and 31st of August, the Municipal Historical Archive of Vila Real de Santo António receives another edition of the Meeting of Cuban Culture.
For two weeks, Vila Real de Santo António presents a poster of exhibitions, films and conferences aimed at strengthening the ties between the Pombaline city and the culture of the Republic of Cuba, which, incidentally, has already been developed, for some years, through the twinning protocol established with the city of Playa (2006) and other cooperation agreements with Cuba's health services.
The 2012 edition of the Encuentro de Cultura Cubana kicks off this Thursday, the 23rd, at 18 pm, in the main hall of the VRSA City Council, and will be attended by the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Portugal, Melne Martínez Hernández .
At 18:15 pm, the session continues with a lecture on “The Cuban Reality”, directed by Erasmo Lascano López.
Also on the 23rd, at 19 pm, the “Horizontes” painting exhibition will be inaugurated at the Municipal Historical Archive, featuring works by Eurico Borges and Enrique Ávila, two painters with different paths, but with a common point: the connection to Cuban culture.
In addition to the exhibition, which will remain open until the 31st, between 15:00 pm and 21:00 pm, the historical archive hosts a cycle of documentaries and films produced by Cuban filmmakers or that, in some way, reflect the culture of that country.
Thus, on August 24, at 18 pm, the screenings of the films/documentaries “La Bala”, “La bella del Alhambra” and “Nosotros, la Música” are scheduled.
On the 28th of August, at 18 pm, the films «La edad de la peseta» and the documentary «Animated Film: 30 años» will be screened.
On August 30, at the same time, the films/documentaries “Sin Crón” and “Sentir Cuba” are shown.
The Cuban Culture Encounter closes on the 31st, at 18 pm, at the Municipal Historical Archive. The ceremony is attended by His Excellency the Ambassador of Cuba in Portugal.
The initiative follows on from the multiple agreements established with Cuba in various areas, namely in culture (cultural exchange), education, sport, health (sports medicine), community development and urban rehabilitation.
