Nine people were injured this morning following shots fired by a man near the taxi park that serves the Vilamoura Casino. Apparently, the shots made with a hunting weapon, known as a shotgun, were motivated by contempt that occurred inside the Black Jack disco, located in the basement of the casino.

An as-yet-unidentified man fired two shots at a group of people who had just exited the nighttime entertainment space, triggering panic. Those shots allegedly shot three people in the legs, with the rest wounded as a result of the ensuing melee.

The victims are French students on vacation in the Algarve and who were scheduled to return home today.

The man, who will have dismounted from the vehicle in which he was following to shoot, according to the Sul Informação, then fled at high speed. Everything happened outside the area reserved for the Casino de Vilamoura, on the public road.

The wounded who required more care were referred to the Loulé Basic Emergency Service, while the other victims were sent to the Hospital de Faro. According to a source from ARS Algarve, the two men who were treated in Loulé around 8:35 am, aged between 19 and 25, were eventually referred to the Hospital de Faro, one for having a hemorrhage and the other for having a fractured leg and needing medical-surgical intervention.

According to a spokeswoman for the Hospital of Faro, in that hospital unit, seven wounded were also admitted, between 8:30 am and 9:00 am, four men and two women. Since their injuries were minor, they should be released soon.

The investigation of this crime is now in the hands of the Judiciary Police.
