Music from three Mediterranean cultures – Arab-Andalusian, Jewish-Sephardic and Medieval Christian – will be performed over three nights, between 27 and 29 July, with the natural setting of Cacela Velha as a stage.

This ancient village, which between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries was a coastal port and an important urban center in the Garb al-Andalus, with valuable testimonies of the Islamic presence, will receive over three nights musical groups that testify to the ancient musical heritage of the al- Andalus at a time when Muslims, Christians and Sephardim coexisted and shared relevant elements of their culture.

With this cycle, according to a note from the Vila Real de Santo António City Council, «it is also intended to show how the ancient and contemporary musical traditions in the South of the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa show, in terms of instruments, texts and vocal techniques, a shared culture over the centuries».

The objective is to provide the spectator with a “different and suggestive cultural encounter, in the same way that the richness of the music of Al-Andalus brings together so much diversity of peoples and cultures”.

So, on July 27, the group “Sephardim” takes to the stage, bringing the colors of Sephardic Jewish music. The following day, the program will be in charge of “Aquitania” and their music of medieval Christian origin. The festival ends on July 29th with the group «Iman Al Kandousi» and the Arab-Andalusian rhythms.

The concerts of the «Ciclo de Música Três Culturas» will take place in the old cemetery of Cacela Velha, have a single price of eight euros and are co-organized by Ibérica – Eventos & Espetáculos and by the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António. All shows start at 22:00.
