The Earth Party Movement (MPT) called for "serenity and containment" to the opposition in Faro, accusing her of "pre-electoral nervousness" in the reactions to the decision of the Supreme Administrative Court that determined the loss of office of Macário Correia, of which the president of the Chamber of Faro already appealed.
According to a statement from the party that is part of the coalition currently in power in Faro, together with the PSD, the CDS/PP and the PPM, the coordinator of the MPT/Algarve Paulo Rosário Dias said that he “perceived the opposition's anxiety”, but was surprised by the reactions “when, in almost three years of mandate, the opposition only becomes criticized the measures taken by the incumbent executive, without presenting any constructive solutions to Faro».
In the same note, the leader of the MPT in the region assured that the coalition that won the last municipal elections in Faro is «in good health and recommended» and that «is more focused than ever on projecting with the best team possible the next years of Faro's life for a healthy and balanced development, with the leadership of Engineer Macário Correia or, in the absence of continuity, another outstanding personality whose merits of competence, leadership and courage do the necessary justice to the Capital of the Algarve».
The MPT took advantage of the occasion to accuse the PS of "lack of democratic sense in the rule of law", by calling into question "an entire coalition", for not seeing the socialists "doing the same for the recently sentenced mayors of the neighboring municipality of Aljezur, who by chance were both elected by the party itself, in full exercise of functions in the municipality to which the accusations refer, which are much more serious and without any judicial decision that has cleared them, contrary to what happens with the facts attributed to the Engineer Macário Correia, already recognized as innocent by two courts».
«The MPT vehemently repudiates that, in a period in which Faro is going through so many difficulties, the opposition from Faro only stirs up criticism and exploits against the figure of its Mayor, instead of channeling its energies to find credible solutions to help Faro», reads the same statement.
